The young men in Boy Scout Troop 61 range in age from 11-17 years of age and most live in Boise, Meridian, or Eagle. Approximately 50% of the Scouts in the troop are home schooled. ‘Work hard, play hard’ is the troop’s tag line and reflects how the program is designed. The scouts spend time working on advancement and enjoying a year-round camping program.
Troop 61 is a boy run and boy led troop. The Senior Patrol Leader, or his assistant, runs the scout meetings. Troop leadership meets monthly to discuss issues.
Troop 61 usually participates in some local Scouting competitions as part of its camping program. Chosen events include Willow Creek (an invitational competition that focuses on a variety of scouting skills including orienteering, knot tying, first aid, and fire building) and Winter Survival Camp (an opportunity to learn how to camp out and survive in the occasionally snowy weather that is part of living in Idaho).
Troop 61 typically plans a week long trip over the summer. These week long trips usually alternate between summer camp and some type of high adventure experience. Past summer camps have included trips to Camp Meriwether on the Oregon Coast and Camp Loll near Yellowstone National Park. High adventure trips have included 50 miler backpacking trips and 100 mile whitewater raft trips.
We welcome you to come to a meeting, scroll through some pictures of past camp outs, or contact our team with questions.
